Steinmüller Babcock modernises Energy from Waste plant in Södertälje

Gummersbach, 28th September 2018. Steinmüller Babcock Environment GmbH, based in Gummersbach/Germany, has been awarded the contract for extensive modernisation measures on line one of the Södertälje Energy from Waste plant in Sweden. The client is Söderenergi AB, the fourth largest district heating producer in Sweden. The Södertälje facility is located southwest of Stockholm, in line one, up to 19.8 tonnes of high-calorific refuse-derived fuels are thermally recycled per hour. 

The redevelopment work on line one includes redesign and conversion of feeding chute, upgrading of ram feeder and grate system as well as slag discharge. Likewise, the combustion chamber is redesigned and rebuild, the goal is a reduction of the flue gas temperature and a reduction of maintenance work. In order to achieve a homogenisation of the temperature profile, the combustion air system is modified and the fire control system is modernised. The new installation of an optimised, innovative SNCR for the reduction of NOx emissions and NH3 slippage takes place. A new design and the replacement of convection heating surfaces will reduce the fouling tendency.
