Although the Waste-to-Energy industry seems to be working with high standard technologies, there are still many innovations, especially when considering new plant designs, markets or the area of Incinerator Bottom Ashes. As an example for typical processes in this industry, the development of solutions for the recycling of bottom ashes contains the aim to minimize residues with the most useful technology as well as to maximize profits, while sticking to the concept of “Urban Mining” and paying regard to political developments.
In addition, the whole industry is facing the need for sustainable and eco-efficient energy production and the reduction of emissions. As new markets, such as China or Southern Europe, are developing, there are still many questions to discuss: To which extent is legislation influencing the industry? Which markets and technologies are the most promising? Where is room for innovation?
The 4th international VDI conference “Energy and Materials from Waste” taking place May 17-18, 2017 in Copenhagen will try to answer some of these questions and focuses on the following topics:
- Legislation and markets
- Recycling and solid recovered fuels
- Incineration and Incinerator Bottom Ashes (IBA)
